In this phase, each group of two students (one grad and one undergrad) will use their knowledge from the previous research phase to design a Parklet in front of the Garland Sandwich Shoppe in Spokane. Our goal is to design a transformable, flexible, multi-functional, safe, light weight, and aesthetically pleasing Parklet that can offer people a chance to appreciate the value of making and maintaining social connections, increasing the vibrancy of the public realm, generating pedestrian activity, and activating new functions for streets. The objective is to create a vibrant public space in the neighborhood that not only benefits the people in the neighborhood and local businesses but also can work as an attraction for them. These projects will be showcased in the 2018 AIA Spokane Professional Award Show in April. At the end of this phase, one project will be selected from students’ work to be constructed in1:1 scale and presented in the AIA Spokane Award Show.
